It is that time of the year… time to crown a champion in what can only be recognized as the premier event to end the season for several of these teams. The Hoop State Championship gives teams, players, and fans a chance to check out some of the top teams in the country from North Carolina, all competing for a state title!
The season has flown by but Phenom Hoops has one more elite event to go in crowning a state champion, as we preview the teams that will be in contention this year.
Winston Salem Christian
Record: 24-7
Coach Antonio Lowe and his team are back in the hunt for a title. Lowe knows what it takes to secure the trophy, doing so with Moravian Prep two years ago. Now, he is looking to earn his first with WS Christian and even though this is a roster with a few shake-ups, there is still a ton of talent on the court.
This is a team that plays tough and will no doubt, leave it all out on the court. They are led by their seniors on the floor, including their floor general in 2022 Camian Shell. He sets the tone with his presence on both ends and play-making, while guards like 2022 Kaden Warner and 2022 Jarius Northam also bring a ton of energy as well. Then you have the high-flying athlete in 2022 Raphael Gay, who will not only put on a show but is continuing to improve and fill up the stat sheet for his team. On top of that, you have one of the top sophomores in the state and one that understand what it means to produce in 2024 Lewis Walker. He can impact the game in a variety of ways, uses his physicality and touch well around the paint, and has really grown into his game this season.
Though this is a team that might not look the same as they did to start the season but this is a team that plays with grit and will come in with confidence, looking to make a run to end the season in a big way.
