2026 Michael Phillips II, a 6’5 prospect from Grace Christian (NC), is a name that has continued to see his stock rise after a strong season. Phillips is one I believe offers a lot of intangibles in his game, and his story is just starting. This season in 34 games at Grace Christian, he averaged 16.4ppg, 7.0rpg, and 1.5bpg while shooing 36 percent from three, 79 percent from the line, and eFG% of 56.3.

We have talked about his game on several occasions in the past. Here is what Patrick O’Brien had to say back in October when we said Phillips could be next up:

“The 6’5 long, lengthy prospect shows the ability to be a difference-maker on both ends of the court.  His confidence and shot-making from behind the arc continue to improve drastically, he is getting stronger and adding more to his game, he brings a lot of versatility with his length, and is making plays on the defensive side of the ball. There is a lot to like, and Phillips is quickly trending high up the rankings, especially if he continues to lock in, work on his game, and continue to develop. All the cards are there to make him something special.  Now, time will only tell as he is still young, but 2026 Michael Phillips II is a name that you may be hearing a lot more about quickly.”

That was back in October and even before then, one could see that Phillips has a ton of potential still untapped and could even flourish even more with his development. There is a lot to like about what he ultimately could be; his length, his athleticism, his ability to knock down shots from outside, and his ability to create.  Add on top of that his impact on both ends, Phillips should just be starting his recruitment, but he is off to a big start with his first offer.

First Offer Comes from Virginia Tech

Playing this summer with Boo Williams, Phillips has a chance to really capture plenty of eyes from programs all around the country.  But the Hokies are the first program to offer the 6’5 prospect from North Carolina, as he announced earlier this week.

“I’m pretty excited about the offer and just going to keep working to be the best that I can be,” Phillips said. “I thank the coaches a lot for giving me an opportunity. Also, Coach DeShannon is helping me better myself not just as a basketball player but as a person. I also think Phenom has been amazing in allowing players to be seen.”

Right now, Phillips is hoping to take an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech this summer, hopefully sometime after June 15th when coaches can talk to him.

Virginia Tech is the first to offer but I continue to believe that this is a young man that has a chance to be special as he understands more of his abilities and potential. Just a matter of time but I wouldn’t be surprised if more schools join in soon.
