2023 Carlos Luis (Combine Regional)
What impressed me with Carlos' play was his effectiveness to get where he wanted and use his size to play at his own pace. He has the blend of inside out play that matches the style of today's game, being able to operate on the block with quality footwork and pose a threat outside with his shot or comfortable ability to put his shoulder down and drive off quick breakdowns. Expect him to receive interest as he plays a focal point inside for really well-rounded unit of guards.
2024 Jack Ellyson (Big Dub Green)
There's just no replacing the overall production Jack continually provides on the court. Hardly anyone is as soundly proficient in every area like him, showing no real weaknesses and constantly making tough winning plays that comes less from skill and more from work ethic. He brings a malleable presence offering utility in various ways offensively, defends and rebounds at a high level, and simply takes care of the ball. Expect a lot of 'quietly' big games this year.
2026 Markus Kerr (United We Stand)
You can just tell when watching certain guys that they have 'it.' Along with the natural frame and coordination he has, he brings a mature and swift profile to the point guard position that you just don't see from freshmen very often. He's cool in the moment, can handle pressure and navigate traffic with smooth crossovers, and makes the right plays at the right times with a heightened sense. Looking at him paired with 2025 Chadlyn Traylor, this should be one of the top backcourts in the state and they're just getting started.
2025 KJ Younger (Big Dub White)
When a guy puts it all out there like KJ has with unmatched hustle, you have to take notice. He's been the clear heart and motor leading the younger Weddington squad, leaving his presence felt all over. He's super athletic, knows how to use his strength and play with his body, and has shown a complete game finishing through contact, hitting threes, and getting others involved. This team is giving indications to be really excited about Weddington basketball from top to bottom.
2023 Chi Shannon (WS Christian PG)
Chi has the slashing wing checklist fully marked, possessing a long athletic frame, coordinated agility, and a finely tuned skillset to get to his spots and convert finishes. He wastes no time turning the corner or getting out in transition and can adjust to finish through or around all the help side he draws with his attacks. More often than not, he has put guys in foul trouble or tough situations helping and has converted from the FT line. Expect him to be the main feature in their high-flying, up-and-down scheme.
2023 Avion Pinner (Edoka's Eagles)
You can't ask for much more than what Avion has shown this fall. Starting with his primary touches, he has the finishing ability and strength to be a workhorse inside and out, using his length to really cover ground on his way to the cup or to help over and block shots. And then when you add in his rim-crashing presence to follow shots for putbacks and claim authority over the paint, he should be a walking double-double this year that will be a difficult matchup, especially when you try to decide between taking him away or focusing on the deadly backcourt duo of Isaiah Tate and JJ Moore.
