Piedmont Classical 'A Closer Look'

Piedmont Classical brings a 9-8 record to the 2nd Annual City of Oaks. They open up against NCHSAA 4A Holly Springs, and don't let their record fool you. Piedmont Classical has played one of the toughest schedules in the state. It's not for the 'faint of heart,' but one coach Kenneth Free and his players embrace. They have quality wins over NCHSAA 1A power Henderson Collegiate, NCISAA 4A power Cannon, and over Quality Education. Their losses have been to some of the best teams in the state. Piedmont has already lost twice to Moravian Prep, who many consider the best team in the state. In addition, they loss to Liberty Heights and Trinity Christian just to name a few.

That being said, one thing is crystal clear. Piedmont Classical is the type of team very few teams enjoy playing. They are quick, athletic and play extremely hard and under no circumstance, will they ever give up. They play with the proverbial chip on their shoulder and the heart of a lion. For coach Ken Free, he has talent, depth, but most of all balance. Leading the way is 6'0 junior point guard Jamari Thomas with 15.4 PPG, 6'6 sophomore Amare Miller 11.3 PPG, and 6'5 senior Trent McIntyre 10.0 PPG. In addition, 5'11 senior Qualeem Poindexter is averaging 9.5 PPG while 6'5 senior Jalen Joiner and 6'8 senior Evan Joiner (NC A&T) both average 8.1 PPG. With Piedmont Classical, three players average in double digit scoring with three close to averaging 10.0 PPG. They bring a tough and aggressive style of basketball to the court and their game Saturday against Holly Springs should be no difference.
