July is going to be fun, especially with Phenom Hoops. That is why we are getting just a small head-start on the teams and players that will be in attendance for the Summer Havoc. Here, we look to preview just a few names to watch for throughout the weekend in Rock Hill, with many others stepping up their game in front of college coaches.
Talk about a fast-rising program heading into the LIVE Period. ACE Elite has been a staple this year around the area and with Phenom Hoops, bringing together a very intriguing talent that already has the attention of college coaches. Here are just a few players that will be a hot topic all throughout the event in Rock Hill.
2022 6’3 Evan Smith
Offers from: Army, Catawba, Navy, Belmont Abbey, The Citadel
Interests: UNCC, UNCG, UNCW, Boston U, Air Force, VMI, App State, Charleston, Winthrop, Queens, Emory & Henry
Smith is a very skilled guard that plays with a tremendous feel, IQ, and skillset. He is incredibly poised on the floor, as he understands how to get his teammates involved but also can really bring that scoring power to the court. Smith has such a smooth feel to his game, finding ways to get to the rim while also stepping out and knocking down shots. He really makes an impact in an array of ways and it is easy to see why schools are offering more his way.
2022 6’7 Toni Akinyelu
Interest: Emory University, NYU, John Hopkins, Citadel, Bowdoin, Washington & Lee, Case Western, Tufts, Dallas, Hampton & Sydney, Hamilton, Amherst, Carnegie Mellon
What Has Been Said: “He uses his size well, can create for himself off the dribble, operate inside and out, and finish strong at the rim; also strong on the boards. He is also a versatile defender and can defend multiple positions, while also being disruptive with his long wingspan.”
2022 5’10 Patrick Bonna
Offers: Barry, Albany College
Interests: Clark’s Summit, University of Tampa, Emmanuel University, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Dallas, Carson-Newman, Christian Brother University
What Has Been Said: “Bonna is yet another guard that can use his speed very well on the court. He gets up and down faster than many, makes good decisions on the court on both ends, and gives this team another option as a scorer especially with a nice pull-up as well as another ball handler.”
2022 Dontavius Paige
Interests: Queens University, Montclair State University, Barry University, Tuskegee University, Dallas Baptist University, Bethel University, Le Moyne College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Trinity Christian College, Marietta College, Caldwell, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Wingate University, Lincoln Memorial
What Has Been Said: “Paige came onto the scene with Phenom Hoops when he was at Mallard Creek, as the guard showed that he can be a consistent scoring threat, shoot the ball effectively from outside, and plays with a nice feel and change of direction to his game.” He is a smooth guard that can get hot quickly, as well as being disruptive on the defensive end to go along with his scoring.
2023 6’4 Brandon Nelson
He is one of the new guys that plays at Ardrey Kell.
2022 6’9 Tai Hamilton
Hamilton is unknown but he is an athletic/mobile big who can block shots and run the floor.
