Ethan Ward 6’6 250 2023 Landstown High School, Virginia Beach VA

Ethan is a bruising post presence, big and strong yet agile and athletic.  His power, low post footwork, and effort position him for deep entries where he shows good touch and finishes at a good rate.  He is immovable inside…and did I say strong, very strong!  He has good timing as he hunts down offensive rebounds and is a punishing finisher whose dunks are so powerful they echo through the building!   His touch and footwork around the rim have really gotten very good over the past several months as I watch him in practice settings.  Much quicker and more versatile than when I first saw him in a team camp at Old Dominion University last August but his body is maturing and he’s stronger and faster and his work ethic is tremendous.

Ethan runs the floor well, good speed for his size!  He has great hands and a soft touch.  He flashes face-up potential both with the ability to hit the short jumper and also to score off short straight-line drives but you can see the potential to get his shot off the dribble in his development.  Not part of his role during game activity but in workouts he shows the ability to hit the occasional spot-up three-pointer.  His footwork and shot mechanics are very good and he looks comfortable and competent enough to add that to his offensive resume as he continued his progression.  Shows a good feel working off the ball as well.

Defensively he is mobile and very active, shows promising lateral foot speed that allows him to defend perimeter bigs fairly well.   Ethan can help on dribble penetration and has good recovery mobility.  He stays active and really competes and is a solid paint presence at the high school level.  Ethan is the cousin of current Landstown High School teammate and nationally ranked guard Donald Hand, Jr.  Ethan will likely be thrust into a more active role for Landstown this coming season and he should begin to attract the attention of some coaches as early as this summer as part of a very talented Boo Williams – Hite 15U EYBL team.
