Devin is a dynamic playmaker with elite athleticism, quickness, and explosiveness. He has a cat-quick first step and excellent speed allowing him to get anywhere he wants with the dribble. He changes speeds nicely and uses abrupt stops and explosive starts making it nearly impossible to stay in front of him. He attacks space so aggressively and shifts laterally demonstrating excellent body control as he slices his way through defenses. He's quick yet has another gear he can shift into and is a blur in the open court. Devin handles the ball as if it was an extension of his arm and uses a variety of dribble moves, most often crossovers, double crossovers, between the legs, and has an extremely quick handle. He can turn the corner against the best of defenders and gets to the rim in the blink of an eye.

Devin can finish through contact and also gets to the free-throw line at a good rate where he is automatic; in fact he shot 80% from the line last season! He is an excellent passer and has an impeccable vision. I like his use of the dump-off pass and he can make every pass in the book! Devin is an outstanding shooter from all levels. His mechanics are disciplined and sound, his release quick and high and he gets excellent elevation. His range extends well beyond the arc, he has a super quick release and is equally effective shooting off the dribble or on catch and shoot opportunities. Even hits contested shots at a good rate! Devin makes 500 shots a day in workouts and it has obviously paid off. He shot over 40% from beyond the arc as a sophomore making 80 three-pointers on the year! He shot 48% inside the arc! Devin uses shot fakes and jabs to create space but again with his quick release he most often catches defenders off guard and gets his shot off before defenders can effectively contest. His great quickness and the suddenness of his stop and pop move is so abrupt it catches defenders still backtracking as he gets into his shot. Defenders can be seen frequently stumbling backward unable to properly contest a shot attempt after a quick move and sudden stop for the pull-up or on a step-back dribble move, a testament to Devin's quickness and shiftiness which makes for a nightmarish defensive assignment. He really has a complete offensive arsenal and prolific scoring potential.

Devin averaged over 21ppg last season leading Butler High School (PA) to a 22-4 record and the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Championship. He earned All-County, All-League and All-Region first-team honors in the process! Devin is an explosive leaper and can finish for rim rocking slams. He also has a great touch off the glass for finishes and uses the floater over taller defenders effectively. A menace on the defensive end Devin is a harassing and tenacious defender. He has excellent footwork and quick feet. He can defend baseline to baseline and not get beat and has a nonstop motor.

Devin has the DNA! His Dad Shelton Carney played for Robert Morris University from 1990 to 1994 and appeared in the 1992 NCAA tournament. In June Devin received an offer from Robert Morris University, the Colonials join St Francis, and Bryant having already extended offers but that list will continue to expand and you can expect high major D1 programs to be involved before long. Devin plays with great poise and feel; he has all the intangibles and a toughness that few can match.
