Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Alex Atkinson
Class: 2024
Committed to: Presbyterian

What Has Been Said:

“Atkinson is an intriguing prospect that we watched throughout the weekend. He has the size that you like at 6’8, he is long, competes, and impacts the game in a variety of ways, and also impressed with his ability to defend along the perimeter. He is a very versatile forward that can knock down shots, moves well on both ends, has nice touch around the basket, and can help on the boards. Liked what I saw from the big man.”

“Alex Atkinson Jr. is a long and athletic big man. He has great touch around the rim and can stretch the defense out with his jump shot. This weekend he showed a lot of toughness and was about to rebound the basketball. Atkinson Jr. can also protect the rim and his stock is rising in the class of 2024 this summer.”

“There were quite a few potential breakout prospects in the building, but none more intriguing than Atkinson. At 6-foot-8, he’s a walking mismatch. Atkinson can reliably pass, shoot, handle, and cause problems with his defensive presence. He’s versatile enough to initiate the offense, push in transition, and make decisions with the ball in his hands, but can also reliably post up or find opportunities as a cutter. Atkinson plays above the rim, shoots the ball at a nice percentage (especially for his position), and moves extremely well for his size. Add in his athleticism and clear upside, and Atkinson should be due for a massive blow-up.”

“Between his fluid athleticism and obvious amount of skill, it’s unclear what more he needs to showcase in order to receive appropriate attention. Atkinson finishes with touch around the basket, scores at a high percentage in the midrange, and can attack opponents off the bounce. He’s a capable post-up option and three-point shooter, but understands how to mix it up at a healthy rate and usually takes what the defense gives him. Atkinson is a solid passer, quality defender, and active two-way rebounder with the ability to pose a consistent threat in transition. Given his numerous strengths and lack of real weaknesses, it feels like all types of schools should be in pursuit. Furthermore, Atkinson is the type of player who will only continue to progress and trend upward over the foreseeable future. Expect his recruitment to take off sooner than later.”
