6‘1 Tauris Watson (Gray Collegiate/Central Pointe Post Grad)

Passion Driven Sports has been pillar in the Pee Dee/Grand Strand area for the past two years. Gym Gems will be focusing on small town kids with big time talent. Every one of these prospects are high character competitors who excel inside the classroom and also on the basketball court.

This past weekend I got the chance to get into the gym with Tauris Watson. Tauris is super explosive combo guard with the ability to finish around, under and OVER bigger defenders. He is a 1300 point scorer in his high school career while still being a true catalyst to any team that he plays for. Tauris is a strong, downhill guard who possesses the ability to be a great passer while still being lockdown defender. Tauris brought a lot of  attention last summer playing with Upward Stars Pee Dee.

His senior season at Gray Collegiate, he led his team to win their third consecutive state championship. Thauris averaged 18.8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game, leading his team to a 25-6 record. He was named Region, Chronical, and Max Preps Player of The Year. Tauris was nominated to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game and selected to play in the North/South and The Capitol City All star games while still maintaining 3.9 GPA.

Tauris received offers from many NCAA Division I and ll basketball programs, including South Carolina State, Catawba College, Clayton State, Evengale University. He also had heavy interest from University of North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Howard, New Mexico, University of South Carolina, and James Madison. Tauris decided to take an extra year of development and go post grad for a year at one of the top post grad teams in the nation Central Pointe coached by Retired NBA player Brad Traina. Divisions 1 schools will be following his development over the next year and offers should follow.
