Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: DaVeon Thomas
Class: 2021
Committed to: Queen University

Thoughts on Thomas and his commitment:

When Thomas first announced his commitment, the immediate reaction one had to have is 'Man, what a steal for Queens.' Queens has been highly-regarded as a big-time program and has been able to nab some interesting and underrated talent and it looks like they did it again. Thomas is a sturdy guard that should be able to excel with this program, especially with his ability to use his body, get downhill and score, as well as playing with an aggressive mindset. Just love his ability to score the ball that should translate well at Queens. He is a guard that seemingly went under the radar at times in South Carolina but may have found the right fit for him and his game.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'He's a strong, tough, aggressive guard prospect with craftiness and the ability to apply scoring pressure in a variety of different ways. Next in his development process is working on his playmaking sense, as it would allow him to run a team more seamlessly. Coach Savage on Thomas: 'Daveon is a strong, stocky combo guard that can get downhill whenever he wants. He does a good job of attacking the basket and finishing through contact. He is hard to stop in transition when he has a full head of steam. He did a good job of getting his teammates the ball and not forcing the issue, letting the game come to him. Daveon is a great defender and makes it uncomfortable for offensive players. With his athleticism, size, and strength, he is very hard to stay in front of; he didn't make shots like he normally does but he is very capable of knocking down the midrange or three-pointer. He will have another high-level showing this season for Lee Central.' Thomas was an asset at camp and should continue to be a prospect for college coaches to monitor during the upcoming season.' SC Top 80 Evaluation

'6'1 DaVeon Thomas ’21 of Ridgeview is a great addition to this already strong team. He adds exactly what this team needed, a downhill guard who is tough and gets the job done. Playing off the ball, he was able to really attack from the wing and score ease points. He showcased the ability to finish through contact and make defenders pay by knocking down open jumpers. Defensively, he is a gritty guard who will make ball handlers work for everything they get. This addition will make this Ridgeview team a very hard team to beat. College Coaches, DaVeon Thomas is a player!'

'Said it before and will say it again, there will be programs that will hate they missed out on Thomas.  His ability to score the ball, get downhill, and change of direction is impressive and that goes along with a strong body that helps him through contact.' – Patrick O'Brien from Phenom Stay Positive
