Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Micah Handlogten
Class: 2022
Committed to: Marshall

What the Player Said:

Phenom: First off, what made Marshall the place for you in the end'
Handlogten: I chose Marshall for multiple reasons.  The atmosphere, the family feel, the players, and the coaches.  It felt like the right place for me as soon as I stepped foot on campus.

Phenom: How did you inform the staff about your decision and what did they have to say when you told them'
Handlogten: I called Coach D'Antoni Tuesday morning, he picked up the phone in the middle of a meeting but still took his time to talk to me.  I told him the news and within the next five minutes, every coach was there and even some players had texted me saying congratulations and that they were excited to have me.  Again, that showed me the family atmosphere at Marshall.

Phenom: What do they think you can bring to the team'
Handlogten: You know me, I'm not a traditional big. Marshall plays position-less basketball which players like me thrive in.

Phenom: What areas are you looking to improve in now being committed'
Handlogten: I'd say strength and continuing to gain confidence in myself.  Basketball is a mental game. Without confidence, you won't succeed.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'He's a long, wiry, fundamental two-way post prospect with the ability to face up or play with his back to the basket. Handlogten moves very well for his size and creates havoc defensively through positioning and understanding how to utilize his length to block shots. He secures rebounds at a strong rate, runs the floor well in transition, and can knock down perimeter jumpers as the trail option. Handlogten can make a lasting impact within his role or expand his production to be a focal point, simply based on team need. Coach Cannon on Handlogten: 'Micah is very coachable with good basketball IQ and soft touch around the rim. He can shoot the ball from all three levels and runs the floor well. He could be more vocal on offense but is very unselfish and passes really well. He's very active on defense, quiet giant, and ultimate teammate.' Handlogten was one of the better two-way performers in attendance, averaging 10 PPG, and should have a very productive junior season at Southlake Christian.' – All-American Camp Evaluation

'The long big man just continues to work and is really starting to show what he is able to do on the court.  Each time, he shows a little more in his game, something we know he has been working on. Long, plays hard and can be effective on both ends of the court.' – Patrick O'Brien

'Anybody looking for a big who can do it all should be looking Handlogten's way. He can stretch the floor and attack from the wings, or catch the ball down low and go to work. His 7'0 frame allows him to get lots of second-chance points. He's a rebounding machine on both ends as well. I like the fact that he doesn't shy away from contact but instead goes straight through it.'

'Still raw offensively, he shows early signs that he is comfortable stretching the defense around the perimeter and has solid vision on the floor. With intriguing size and mobility early on, keep track of the young sophomore.'

''He's a long, wiry post prospect with phenomenal size and fluidity, especially for his age. Handlogten showed touch with either hand, great rebounding instincts, and the ability to protect the rim at a fairly high level. He's tougher and more aggressive than opponents tend to think, which allows him to control the paint quite effectively on both ends of the floor. Handlogten moves well without the ball, makes the extra pass whenever available, and simply knows how to maximize his role on the court.' – Phenom 150 evaluation
