Greensboro, NC — A couple of years ago Amillia Huggins was making headlines as a part of one of the best teams in North Carolina hoops history, Southwest Guilford had won their second state title in three years in 2019.
The Cowboys went a perfect (32–0), and dominated the competition in impressive fashion, with a prolific offensive attack and a cerebral defensive approach. Southwest Guilford finished the season in the top 25 nationally in the majority of major polls, this group battled some of the toughest teams and top players in the region and never folded once. The senior class went 106-14 over four years, which is absolutely nuts!
There were many that wanted to see this group compete against the nation’s best for a national title in the Geico National Tournament. Several players from this group both starters and reserves would go on to play college basketball at various levels. That brings us here, Huggins was a guy that could’ve gone to plenty of other schools around the Triad and been a starter, coaches speak highly of his character. In my opinion, particularly he showed selflessness and maturity when he embraced his role with this group.
