The talent down in South Carolina continues to impress, and Phenom Hoops had a chance to check out some of the big-time talent from the state this past weekend at the Phenom Challenge. One player that we were eager to see was 2027 Joshua Leonard from Wilson High School and who is suiting up with Upward Stars 2026.

When you watch him in action, you can see that this is a young man who has all the potential in the world and continues to develop as a prospect, but there is still upside left in the tank. His college-ready frame, his feel for the game, and his natural ability to make plays on the court are impressive and should have big-time schools’ attention early on. Leonard excels in an array of areas, being able to aggressively get downhill, finish strong at the rim and through contact, knock down shots from an array of levels, and his versatility… he checks a lot of boxes. Yet, I believe there is still a lot left in the tank in what he could ultimately be, which should only make him even more exciting as a prospect.

Leonard is one that holds offers right now, but that list should dramatically increase with high major programs looking hard his way.  Look for him to have a huge season in helping lead the charge, and he could be the next star coming through the state of South Carolina.

What Has Been Said:

“He’s quite comfortable at making an impact and finding opportunities with or without the ball in his hands. Leonard is a reliable playmaker, rebounder, and scorer from all levels. He has a keen sense of asserting himself within the flow of the action, yet always seems ready to apply constant pressure. Leonard moves extremely well, both for his size and age, and possesses great athleticism at this stage in his development. There’s nothing he’s uncomfortable doing, which is a rarity for most freshmen.” – 2023
