2024 Sebastian Akins has been a hot topic of discussion over the last few months with his play, as he has only continued to elevate his level of play and really stepping up on the big stage. You can almost go back to his time at the Phenom HoopState Championship, as Akins was sensational all throughout the event in leading his team.
At that time back in March, we had this to say about his strong play at the event:
“Akins was the leader on the court in this game, as he did an excellent job in creating for himself off the dribble and getting inside the paint to finish. He was strong in finishing through contact and showcasing strong body control, while also still presenting the ability to knock down shots from outside. Strong play from the junior prospect throughout.”
And he has only continued that trend this summer, opening more eyes his way. We recently spoke with Akins to catch up on all the latest in our latest Phenom 1-on-1. See what he had to say.
Phenom: How has everything been going for you this summer so far? What has been your focus?
Akins: The summer has been great for me so far. My team and I have been winning a lot of games and I got my first two D1 offers. My focus has been to play like a true point guard and get my teammates easy buckets. I also have been focusing on learning how to win games by controlling the game. Really showing I know how to win and run a team.
Phenom: How has your game been developing more this summer?
Akins: I think it has been developing into more of a true point guard. Not always looking to get my shot off but learning how to get my teammates’ shots off, noticing who is hot and what’s the best position to get them the ball. Or who hasn’t touched the ball in a while and getting them the ball.
Phenom: As you mentioned, you earned your first two D1 offers. How was that for you? And what is your excitement about each program?
Akins: It was a dream come true honestly. IUPUI was my first offer, so that will forever mean a lot for them to be the first to see something in me and take a chance on me. I actually got to visit High Point and everything from the gym to the campus, it was amazing. So I am excited and blessed for both of the schools to take a chance on me.

Akins: Appalachian State, Winthrop, Wisconsin Green Bay, and North Georgia.
