The class of 2023 around North Carolina is slowly wrapping up, but a new name is back on the market and should be highly sought after by college programs all around the region. 2023 Torey Alston recently announced his de-commitment from Sam Houston State and is looking for a new home. This is big news for programs looking for a player late, as Alston brings a lot to the table.

When you talk about his game, there is so much to like in what Alston brings to the table. His overall development over the past year or two has been incredible, and his development should only continue. Alston is a 6'8 prospect that impacts the court in so many ways; he is very skilled for his position and plays with so much energy. He consistently is able to use his length and athleticism on the glass and in the paint to finish over defenders, create second-chance opportunities, and finish strong at the rim. He also is skilled enough to secure a defensive rebound and turn in transition, as he has above-average handles with his game.  Defensively, Alston has such a long wingspan, he does a great job in blocking or altering shots consistently, he can guard inside and out as well as multiple positions, and plays with such a strong motor.

And again, I believe that this is just the start of his story, as his game should only continue to grow at the next level. Now that his recruitment is open, Alston should be a hot topic for so many programs that are looking for a late snag for their class of 2023.

What Has Been Said:

'He's a long, skilled, athletic forward prospect with the tools and ability to reliably produce on both ends of the floor. Alston is an excellent finisher with the necessary length and athleticism to consistently finish above the rim or through contact. He rebounds the ball at a high volume and possesses the necessary skill and feel to effectively push the break in transition. Alston shoots the ball at an impressive percentage, especially for his size/position, and is capable of attacking opponents off the bounce. He's also great at blocking shots and running the floor in fast-break scenarios.'

'The lengthy prospect has been putting up some impressive numbers so far, averaging 22.8 points, 13.8 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, and 3.3 assists per game (including 3 triple-doubles) as Liberty Christian is off to a 10-2 start this season.  When you watch his highlight tape, you can see that he has very good size to go along with his game, as he uses his length extremely well.  He also has good athleticism in finishing at the rim, can step out and showcase his jumper from inside the arc and outside, has good ball-handling skills, can create and get to the rim, and be a rim-protector with his length.'

'He's a skilled, explosive forward/post prospect with a wiry frame and incredible length. Alston is a bouncy player and seemingly effortless athlete who can finish well above the rim with relative ease. He's a reliable shooter from midrange and beyond the arc, and can actively take opponents off the bounce from the perimeter. Alston scores the ball in a variety of different ways while highlighting an excellent mix of IQ, skill, and athleticism'especially for his size. He moves very well for a big man and utilizes his long wingspan to finish, rebound, and block a ton of shots. Alston can cause matchup problems for opponents, given his size, mobility, and general skill level. He can dominate a game or consistently produce by providing a rim-running presence. Though already quite appealing, Alston should only continue to progress over the next calendar year. It's easy to see why he's become one of the more coveted prospects in North Carolina's Class of 2023.'
