At the Phenom New Year’s Bash, there were plenty of intriguing new and young talent that had us excited about the future here in North Carolina. One player that really impressed us was 2027 Zaiyir Phillips from Hunter Huss High School. Phillips, a player that we have highlighted before that can be seen below, really has stepped up even more as a player and looks to be one of the clear leaders with this team even as a young player.

Phillips is having a tremendous freshman season in which he is averaging over 15 points per game, along with 4.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 4.8 steals per game. Pretty impressive stats both offensively and defensively, leading his team in several categories.

When watching him on the court, you can see that this young man has a different mentality; a mindset looking to prove and such a competitive nature against his opponent. He isn’t afraid of the bright lights and stepping up when his team needs him to, he excels in making plays off the bounce but can knock down shots from a variety of levels. Phillips just plays with such tenacity and confidence, as well as grittiness on the court, certainly, something you don’t see in many freshmen.

He is one of several freshmen who should earn more looks further down his high school career.

What Was Said Before:

“Phenom Hoops continues to spotlight some of the young prospects from the Phenom Winter Nationals the other week, as we now look at 2027 Zaiyir Phillips with Team United 2027. Phillips was able to make some noise with his play, and has been a standout on a few occasions before. When talking about his game, Phillips has shown that he can be quick and strong, and he can handle the ball well. The 5’10 guard understands how to be an elite scorer on the court, scoring in bunches, knocking down shots, using his speed to get downhill, and he plays with a great motor that makes him tough to guard.”
