Nearly two weeks ago, we put out some predictions for the NCISAA playoffs. That article offered a brief look at each classification, picking a favorite and darkhorse contender from each. Fast-forward to now, and we’ve reached the final stage of determining who will ultimately win it all. Before looking at the upcoming games, let’s see how we’ve fared thus far:

1A:

Prediction- United Faith

Darkhorse- Victory Christian

2A:

Prediction- The Burlington School

Darkhorse- Greenfield

3A:

Prediction: High Point Christian

Darkhorse: Greensboro Day

4A:

Prediction: Christ School

Darkhorse: Providence Day

As we all know, the high school playoffs represent the period where any team can prevail at any given time. Records, reputations, and everything else goes out the window. The basketball is rolled out and we watch who comes out of the cage fight victorious. So many factors and variables determine how to win games. The most talented team doesn’t always win, as evidenced by decades of athletics at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Let’s dive into each classification. starting with 1A:

Although the personal predictions for 1A are currently as correct as possible, it’s worth noting that Victory Christian narrowly defeated Northside Christian in their last contest. Regardless, now they’ll face their toughest test of the year in United Faith—who beat their two playoff opponents by 31 and 26 points, respectively.

For the Falcons, DJ Boyce has only further solidified himself as one of the best shooters in the state (41% 3P on 92-227), Dylan Deluca is a legitimate inside-out forward, and Isaiah Sutherland (WSSU commit) anchors the paint on both ends of the floor. That being said, JD Bowden has clearly ascended to a new level as the focal point of this group. Additionally, guys like Logan Johnson, Will Brown, Julien Evering, and Julius Little have each carved out meaningful roles for this group.

On the other side, the Kings have stood out as a balanced group with the ability to beat teams in several different ways. Seniors Alius Bowser and Xavier Perry consistently set the tone through their toughness and offensive ability (both should have more action within their recruitment). Kabba Fanta anchors the paint as a double-double machine who protects the rim. Justyn Whitfield is a quality scorer and lethal shooting threat. Guys like Myles Smith and Abubakar Cham round out the rotation as critical pieces.

While it is easy to appreciate everything Victory Christian has done to this point, it would be difficult to go against the original prediction of United Faith. Expect a close battle, but Coach Holloway should finish the job after his second straight title appearance in as many seasons at the helm. Prediction- United Faith
