The season has started and is well underway, as we are taking a look at multiple teams throughout the state that have started hot and could be teams to really watch out for as the season goes along. One team that I’ve got my eyes on is the Wolverines of Wakefield High School, as they sit undefeated on the season.

This veteran, senior-led team brings firepower, can score the ball well, and has balance in how they attack.  And again, this is a team that is made up mostly of seniors that are clicking this year.  After finishing 15-11 last year, Wakefield is off to a hot 9-0 start this season led by 2024 Syncere Burnette, averaging 15.9ppg, 5.8rpg, 6.6apg, and 3.6spg. The guard has been filling up the stat sheet and making his presence known on both sides of the court.

But he has had plenty of help as well, as 2024 Taj Boone-Chambers and 2024 Tristian Pretlow are both chipping in 10 points per game for the Wolverines.  Right behind him is 2025 Dylan Goodknecht, adding 8.1ppg this season; however, this is a team that has depth with 9-10 players seeing action in nearly every game.   When you dive into the schedule, this is a team that has been able to grind out some wins, as well as win impressively; but the key word is win, as they are finding ways to rack up the W’s so far.

As the season progresses, Wakefield is a team that has made itself one to watch, as this experienced team is hoping to finish out strong this high school season.
