This past weekend, Phenom Hoops traveled down to the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina for our annual Phenom Opening. The event featured a ton of travel ball programs ready to prepare for the upcoming summer season. Although young, the Team Trezz 13U squad is clearly a group worth noting. They showed flashes of pure dominance throughout the weekend, both individually and as a team, and should be among the more entertaining middle-school squads in the state. Coach Rod Williams has assembled a balanced, well-rounded roster, which certainly includes the brotherly duo of MD and BD Donzo.
They already possess size, length, athleticism, and excellent two-way motors, yet are still just beginning to scratch the surface of their long-term abilities. Right now, each guy is capable of anchoring the paint on their own or wreaking havoc as a pairing. They control the glass, block shots at a constant rate, and run the floor hard in transition—where they are able to finish with consistency around the basket. Both guys have shown glimpses of being able to play above the rim, which is typically quite uncommon for players of their age. The Donzos aren’t afraid to shoot an occasional jumper, but usually do most of their work around the basket. Sporting 6-foot-3 frames, they also offer great strength and mobility for their size.
It’s only a matter of time before these two begin turning even more heads. However, it’ll still be fun to watch their individual growth going forward. They truly have all the tools to be notable prospects, especially if they continue to physically mature over the coming years.
