Going back to look at the talent on display at the Phenom Prep Showcase, Franklin Prep was a team we were quite familiar with over the years and they always seem to have intriguing talent that is worth monitoring. That hasn’t changed this season, as we saw a few prospects that will be worth being on the radar late.
When looking at a few unsigned seniors, 2023 6’8 Bryce Wilkins was one that stood out with his long frame, his activity on the glass, and his ability to be productive around the basket. He has a nice skill set for his position and gives glimpses that he could only build on that more down the road. But you can’t deny his 6’8 frame that is able to make plays for his team. 2023 6’0 Trent McLaughlin also had a very good weekend for Franklin Prep, being an active scorer as a guard. He consistently was able to make plays off the dribble, penetrate the defense, and find ways to score and get his shot or get to the line.
Looking at a few other players, 2024 6’8 Jared Taylor continues to be a player that grabs my attention in what he could provide. We have mentioned it quite a few times, but this 6’8 forward absolutely looks to finish strong and rip the rim off, showcasing his athleticism and impact on both offense and defense. 2024 6’6 Nalijah Smith also showed some flashes of his game, using his strong frame to carve out space and make his presence felt down low.
Then you had players like 2023 Stephon Gaddy who was showing his range and ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shot-making, and 2024 Julien Evering who displayed his ability to be a crafty guard that can make plays in a variety of ways.
Franklin Prep went into the Phenom Prep Showcase and really battled throughout the event, really showing their resiliency. And they have some talent that is certainly worth monitoring and looking into more.
