This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops is slated to travel to Hartsville, South Carolina for our Hartsville High School Classic. Fourteen of the region’s top teams will come together for an exciting day of basketball. Many of these squads are pretty well-known across the state but Lugoff Elgin is quietly approaching for battle to show what their capable of against Darlington.
Led by Devante Johnson, Lugoff Elgin has a weapon that could prove too strong for the opposition. Johnson is currently leading the Midland’s in scoring at 21 PPG, and doing so in a variety of ways. He’s electric with the ball in his hands, displaying IQ, craftiness, and the willingness to set up others on penetration opportunities. That being said, Johnson’s three-point shooting is arguably his most impressive quality. He’s highlighted the ability to spot-up or knock down three-pointers off the dribble, allowing him to play either guard spot quite effectively. Johnson plays with a great change of pace and has the ability to finish well around the basket. He leads by example and competes extremely hard at all times, which has resulted in three thirty-point showings this season.
In addition to the scoring, Johnson is also averaging six rebounds per game and leading his team in every possible way. Right now, his recruitment has yet to erupt but looks likely to happen within the coming months. Johnson has the tools, ability, and upside necessary to be a successful player at the next level. So, it’ll be exciting to see how Johnson and Lugoff Elgin perform on a big stage this Saturday.
