Down in Florida for the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Phenom Hoops was able to check out some of the premier talent around the country. Some of the top players in the country made their way down and put on a show but several other prospects captured our attention.
One player that we learned about and had the opportunity to watch on several occasions was 2025 6’5 Matthew Able from Sagemont Prep down in Florida. Able is a 3-star guard by many outlets but watching him on the court, he was able to flourish and show potential in his game. Talking about his game and what we saw, Able was one of the best shot creators that we saw. He had a ton of confidence in his ability to look for his jumper in catch-and-shoot situations as well as his dribble pull-up from multiple levels. Able had one of the most confident releases with his shot, displaying his ability to get to his spots and knock down shots with good size. He was also able to score and get to the rim at times, but his shot-making ability quickly grabbed our eyes. Able plays with a strong feel and skillset that you don’t see in a lot of players but also has a natural feel and IQ for the game. We were able to talk to Able quickly after the event to describe his game more. Here is what he had to say:
“I would best describe my game as a true two-way guard. I defend at a high level while also providing elite shooting from the perimeter. Along with solid playmaking abilities and most of all, I’m a great teammate.”
Coming into the camp, Able held offers from Virginia Tech< Jacksonville, New Mexico State, Georgia State, Stetson, Indiana State, FGCU, Dartmouth, Boston College, and St. John’s. He has now added offers from Georgia and Wake Forest since the camp, but I believe that list should only continue to rise as he could be a hidden gem.
