As a platform that sees thousands of players and hundreds of games throughout the year, there always just seems to be a play or two that just sticks in the back of your mind and makes you think.

Well, I can personally add another one to the vault from the Battle at the Rock last weekend.

It was watching 2021 Omarion Bodrick and Combine Academy on Day 2 when they faced Dorman high school.  Bodrick was doing what he has done on several occasions but this one play just continues to replay in my head.  Bodrick came up with a block around the paint, using his length incredibly well to not only block the opponents’ shot but also retrieve the ball.  He then started to push the break without second-guessing, eventually finding an open teammate ahead of him.  Instead of slowing down there, he continued to run the floor and out ran all his defenders, as that same teammate lobbed it back his way for the alley and slam.  Now remember, Bodrick was much further behind his teammate but showcased his speed and mobility to run past and finish with authority.

Now, it may sound like a play many have seen before and may not grab your attention right away, but when you watch the play in real time, it was something that really makes you step back and say, “what else do you need to see from this young man?”

That plays just gives you a glimpse of what Bodrick can provide.  The energy, the motor, the difference-maker on both ends of the floor, and really being one of the most athletic prospects in the state of NC that can help eliminate any opportunities for opponents on the defensive end.

Bodrick can really make an impact on the floor and not require the spotlight or even be a huge offensive threat.  His timing on blocks along with his athleticism is incredible to watch and something you don’t always see in players.

It is also easy to see why schools like Mount St. Mary’s, UNCG, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, North Carolina A&T, USC Upstate, and Rider have all offered but more programs should really be looking more his way.  And playing on a national stage with a national program like Combine, eyes should be coming his way.

He is a difference-maker and enegizer on the court. Bodrick can make those winning plays that may not bring him the biggest spotlight but brings home wins for a team.

That is why after watching him at the Battle at the Rock, the question still remains: What else do you need to see?
