Every few years, North Surry High School seems to have an influx of talented basketball players emerge within their program. Following guys like Carter Phillips and Mason Hawks, Jahreece Lynch is their latest prospect to generate buzz among college coaches. The 6-foot-2 wing has been a notable football talent for quite a while, but still has plenty to offer a basketball program at the next level. In order to fully appreciate everything he's doing, we must look at everything he's already done…

If it feels like Lynch has been around for a long time, it's because he has. He's been a highly productive staple on the basketball court since dating back to his freshman season. Although Lynch is a two-sport athlete who already holds multiple scholarships on both the gridiron and hardwood, his basketball successes are incredibly difficult to ignore. Just look at his numbers throughout the years:

Freshman Season (2019-20): 15.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 3.1 SPG; 42/30/63 splits (16-11 record)

Sophomore Season (2020-21): 19.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 4.1 SPG; 48/27/67 splits (6-5 record)

Junior Season (2021-22): 21.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 5.4 APG, 2.3 SPG; 48/37/67 splits (23-5 record)

Senior Season (2022-23): 21.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.2 APG, 2.0 SPG; 47/30/61 splits (12-1 record)

Current Totals: 1468 points, 390 rebounds, 296 assists, 206 steals; career record of 57-22 (35-6 in his last 41 games)

In all honesty, those numbers are ridiculous. Lynch has been a main piece the moment he stepped on campus, and it's paid dividends for everyone involved. The fact that Lynch is creeping up on 1500 points despite the lost games from Covid and considering he's shared touches with another 20 PPG scorer for the last three seasons (James McCreary) is legitimately insane. Furthermore, it seems like the Greyhounds have consistently found more success as they've increased Lynch's amount of responsibility over the years.

Between his summer with the NC Spartans and continued production during the high school season, it's easy to appreciate everything he's done. Lynch is strong, physical, and athletic with the ability to impact the game in a variety of different ways. He's a natural leader who plays hard, does the dirty work, and fills in the gaps whenever possible. However, Lynch is also quite skilled and possesses the necessary ability to operate as a main creator, score from multiple levels, and make proper decisions with the ball in his hands. He's a strong defender and rebounder with great anticipation in both areas. Lynch is comfortable operating as a playmaker and understands how to set up others with relative ease, especially in penetration situations or by making the extra pass. It's difficult to say anything other than positives about a smart, unselfish, team-oriented guy who has clearly done whatever it takes to prioritize winning. Lynch is someone who can make a difference for a slew of programs at the next level.
