Continuing to highlight unsigned seniors and impressive performances at our recent events, our next player to watch for more this year is 2024 guard Markiest Houston, who is suiting up for Rocky River this season. Rocky River continues to bring a strong depth of guards to the court, ones that can flourish in a variety of ways and be playmakers.
Houston is one that impressed with his 23-point performance on Day 2 at the Phenom Lakesgiving, and that was following after a strong 19-point showing on Day 1 against Carmel Christian. He really stepped up and played with a ton of confidence, especially with his ability to knock down shots from multiple levels, score off the bounce or off the dribble, and can get into the paint as well as be a strong on-or-off the ball defender. He is a valuable role player on the court but also shows that he can help take over a game and be a strong offensive-scoring presence as well. Add on top of his overall impact both offensively and defensively, he could be a sneaky guard to watch for here in North Carolina.
Right now, he holds an offer from Brevard but interest could pick up more with strong performances like he had at Lake Norman High School.
What Was Said:
“Houston stands out with his toughness, athleticism, and two-way approach. He’s a rugged defender, willing hustle player, and fairly balanced offensive threat with the ability to get downhill, pull-up, or set up others.”
“Rocky River has plenty of guards, but it was the shooting of Houston that allowed his team to stay within striking distance in this game. Time after time, he was able to rise up and get to his spots, showing his range from behind the arc and his ability to knock down shots. He was the most consistent for his team, scoring 23 points on Day 2.”
