At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, hundreds of players from'North Carolina'went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today's edition will highlight'Charlie Whitley of East Wake Academy and Team Push.

We've seen Whitley emerge as a major piece for the Team Push Unsigned Seniors, recently stating, 'The Team Push organization has a ton of next-level players, which certainly includes someone like Whitley. He's a very low-maintenance player who simply plays hard, does the dirty work, and looks to make hustle plays whenever possible. Whitley finishes, rebounds, works defensively, and runs the floor well in transition.' In addition to comments from his coach, 'Consistent scorer on the block. Shines when sealing, catching the ball in the paint, and using his footwork and physicality to score on defenders. Excellent work ethic and attitude. Can score in bunches and defend around the rim.'

Though our viewings have been somewhat limited, it's clear that Whitley can find a place at the next level. His motor, hustle, and low-maintenance identity allow him to consistently carve out a useful role on a game-to-game basis. Whitley is tough, unselfish, and shows a willingness to do the dirty work on either side of the ball. He finishes, rebounds, blocks shots, and runs the floor hard in transition. Whitley is a solid athlete and overall competitor who wants to battle on either side of the ball. He genuinely doesn't need offensive touches to make a lasting impression, but can capably find ways to assert himself as needed. Expect to see Whitley committing to the next level sooner than later.
