At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, hundreds of players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today's edition will highlight Tucker Johnson of Concord Academy.

We've seen Johnson grow throughout these last few years, stating, 'It didn't take long for Johnson to stand out as one of (if not the) most physically imposing players on either team. He's a strong, athletic, high-motor post prospect with a clear understanding of how to outwork opponents for extra opportunities on both ends of the floor. Johnson is a quality finisher, both above the rim or through contact, and often finds offensive chances through sheer effort and positioning. He rebounds, alters shots, and runs the floor hard in transition. Like his teammate above, college coaches should be laying groundwork.' Our Patrick O'Brien also stated, 'Johnson was a man-child today on Day 2 of the Phenom G3 Showcase. But that really isn't a surprise as he showed that during his high school season this season and continuing that this weekend. He leaves it all out on the court, outworking others down low, bringing tremendous strength and power, and also blocking multiple shots. Really impressive play today.'

We've seen a lot of extremely valuable role players throughout the high school season, and Johnson was easily among the best. He's so strong, physical, explosive, and plays with a mean streak on both ends of the floor. Johnson plays much bigger than his size would imply as a defensive anchor and two-way rebounder. He moves well and welcomes physical play around the basket. Johnson is a great finisher who can get above the rim or power through contact, but also displays touch and the ability to post-up if necessary. He plays with a really high motor at all times, does the dirty work, and is simply willing to do whatever necessary to provide his team with an edge on either end of the floor. Johnson will be an asset in the right situation.
