The state of North Carolina is blessed with an overabundance of talent. In the North Carolina 2018 class, 60 plus players signed with D1 schools and another 40 plus signed to play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Juco level. Quite impressive numbers! This year, the 2019 class is on the same course to have 100 plus players continue to play at the collegiate level. In our unsigned senior spotlight, we want to take a closer look at 6’3 Julius Burchof Southern Guilford in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is someone that we strongly feel is a scholarship-worthy player.
There are plenty of players with an influx of value that doesn’t meet the naked eye, which seems to include Burch at this point. He’s been one of two leaders for his high school team and has mostly flown under the radar this season. Burch has a terrific two-way skillset that allows him to reliably dictate the offensive action while being an all-around menace on defense. At this level, he’s able to contain three to four positions without hesitation and should maintain a lot of his defensive versatility going forward, given his nice blend of IQ, strength, and athleticism. It’ll be exciting to watch the remainder of his season, as Burch should continue to accumulate offers throughout that period of time.
We recently saw Burch do battle with his high school team and stated, “The most versatile player on either team was Burch, causing headaches for opponents on defense and showcasing his ability to be a focal point on offense. He scored the ball fairly well, but his playmaking skills were simply on another level, as he led both teams in assists with relative ease. On the other side, Burch was (without question) the most well-rounded defensive player for either team and actively switched across four positions throughout this game”His game is able to changed based on circumstance, which should be an increasingly attractive quality for the next level, as it allows teams to utilize various different ideas and matchups. Burch has a flurry of various D2 and D3 programs offering and expressing interest, so there’s no clear indicator of where he’ll end up going forward.
