At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, hundreds of players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today’s edition will highlight Josef Fullwood of Pender and WBC Elite.

We’ve seen Fullwood numerous times over the years, including at one of our most recent camps, where we stated, Moving onto a player that arguably stood out as the most explosive camper on this team, Josef Fullwood. He’s a big, strong wing prospect with an exceptional motor and unselfish approach on both ends of the floor. Fullwood is smart and understands how to get downhill and attack the basket with regularity while showing a willingness to set up open teammates. He’s a great finisher with the ability to go over or through opposing rim-protectors. Fullwood also shined as a rebounder, which allowed him to secure second-chance points and push the break in transition. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off-hand, as it would make him an even more lethal offensive threat. Coach Harmon on Fullwood: “Josef plays with tremendous effort. He has very good penetration ability and finishes at the basket with force. He has great leaping ability. Josef can continue to work on his off-hand and shooting range. He’s a team player with leadership capability.” Fullwood enjoyed another strong showing at camp and looks increasingly poised for a productive upcoming season at Pender.”

Given the incredible production throughout his senior season, it’s bizarre that we even need to have this discussion surrounding Fullwood and his recruitment. For Pender, he posted nightly averages of 22.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 1.0 BPG with impressive 65/45/67 shooting splits. Given his IQ, efficiency, athleticism, and clear desire to play hard, it’s difficult to understand why opportunities aren’t consistently coming his way. However, Fullwood has continued to stand out for WBC Elite during the current summer season. He’s a tough, rugged two-way player with a high motor, defensive instincts, and the ability to make his presence felt in transition. Fullwood brings a variety of things to a team, and should ultimately be able to further his playing career at the next level.
