At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, hundreds of players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today's edition will highlight Daniel Penosky of Legion Collegiate.

We've seen Penosky in various different settings, including at our most recent SC Top 80, where we stated, 'Continuing onto a player that arguably stood out as the top perimeter shooter on this team, Daniel Penosky. He's an unselfish, skilled, high-motor guard prospect with nice size, toughness, and the ability to make plays without requiring the ball in his hands. Penosky is a capable creator, defender, and penetrator with a willingness to find the best available play. Although a lethal spot-up threat, he also shoots the ball with efficiency off the bounce and attacks closeouts as needed. Next in his development process is working on moving without the ball, as it would make him an even better spot-up threat. Coach Carpenter on Penosky: 'Daniel is a 'scorer's scorer.' His range and touch allow him to score from all three levels. Mechanically and fundamentally, his shooting is flawless. He could also defend on and off the ball. His area of opportunity is communicating on defense.' Penosky enjoyed a strong showing at camp and should have a productive senior campaign at Legion Collegiate.'

Since then, Penosky has only continued to further solidify himself as a reliable piece and strong spot-up threat. He's a useful offensive initiator with the necessary feel and patience to effectively run a team as needed. Penosky can also make a quality impact without the ball in his hands, displaying cutting instincts and the ability to pose a constant threat from beyond the arc. He defends his assignment well, pursues rebounds at a consistent rate, and finds ways to contribute offensively. Penosky is adaptable to the pieces around him, and should be a valuable piece at the next level.
