The state of North Carolina is blessed with an overabundance of talent. In the North Carolina 2018 class, 60 plus players signed with D1 schools and another 40 plus signed to play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Juco level. Quite impressive numbers! This year, the 2019 class is on the same course to have 100 plus players continue to play at the collegiate level. In our unsigned senior spotlight, we want to take a closer look at 6’2 Derrick Page of North Rowan High School in Spencer, North Carolina, and is someone that we strongly feel is a college-worthy player.

There are so many available point guards at this point in the recruiting process that various prospects get lost in the shuffle and seep through the cracks. Page understands how to maximize his role and maintain a pesky, high IQ presence on both ends of the floor. Currently this season, Page is posting nightly averages of 10 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals while shooting the ball at an efficient clip and keeping a 3.2 GPA. It’s difficult to be unsatisfied with the team-first role that Page willingly accepts for this team.

We talked to his high school coach, Jason Causby, and he stated, “Derrick Page is a 6-foot-2 point guard who is the most important player on our 21-2 YVC (16-0) Championship team. He definitely makes us go on both the defensive and offensive ends. His long arms and frame keys the point on our full and half court zones. He is super steady with the ball and knows exactly when to push in transition or settle us into a disciplined set in the half court. Derrick is very sure and smooth with the ball and can score with ease on drives to the basket, an excellent mid-range pull-up, or with his emerging 3 point shot and expanded range. He rebounds really well form the guard spot by utilizing his quality frame. However, his unselfish play is what I believe stands out about him the most. With two 1000-point scorers playing alongside him on the wings, Derrick is content with orchestrating the offense and getting the other 4 players on the floor involved. He truly makes everyone around him better and is one of the most unselfish players I have ever coached. Derrick is a strong leader in practice and has definitely set the tone for the success we have had this season with his work ethic and positive vocal leadership. Derrick embodies what a true point guard should be and because of that, our team has enjoyed a fantastic season.” Page has embraced his role and sacrificed touches for the betterment of the team. He’s a true leader, both on and off the court, and is capable of coexisting with any group of teammates. Keep an eye on his recruitment as the regular season concludes, since various programs could benefit from Page’s contributions.
