The state of North Carolina is blessed with an over abundance of talent. In the North Carolina 2018 class, 60 plus players signed with D1 schools and another 40 plus signed to play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Juco level. Quite impressive numbers! This year, the 2019 class is on the same course to have 100 plus players continue to play at the collegiate level. In our unsigned senior spotlight, we want to take a closer look at D1 prospect 6’0 PG John Michael Wright. Wright checks in at no. 32 in our most recent North Carolina 2019 rankings. https://www.phenomhoopreport.com/rankings/2019-north-carolina-rankings/
John Michael Wright is a young man we’ve had the pleasure of watching countless times over the course of his high school career. In speaking with Fayetteville Academy head coach William Boyette, he had nothing accolades about his senior point guard. Coach Boyette stated, “John Michael is so under the recruiting radar. I’ve been coaching for over 30 years and John Michael is as good a player as I’ve ever coach, which includes Chris Wilson who went on to play at St. Joseph. He is such a humble young man, a joy and pleasure to coach. John Michael knows the game, he is a winner in every capacity.”
Fayetteville Christian is currently 12-2 for the season and currently ranked no. 3 in our NCISAA most recent ranking and are in consideration as one of the top 20 teams in the state regardless of class or affiliation. For the season, John Michael is averaging 24.0 PPG, 7 RPG, 5 APG, and 3 SPG. These are impressive statistics, but the one that may stand out the most is his 3.7 GPA. Without question, John Michael is a model citizen and a true student athlete.
With John Michael, we’re talking about a “quick on quick” point guard, who is masterful at changing speeds and constantly creating havoc on the opposing defensive team. He has tremendous bounce, explosiveness and is a tenacious on ball defender. What’s not to like about a high character, elite level athlete, that plays the game with intensity, passion and is a great teammate. D1 coaches, here’s one for the taking!
