Unsigned Senior Spotlight: 6’0 'Ian Martino (Lake Norman Charter)

The state of North Carolina is blessed with an overabundance of talent. In the North Carolina 2018 class, 60 plus players signed with D1 schools and another 40 plus signed to play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Juco level. Quite impressive numbers! This year, the 2019 class is on the same course to have 100 plus players continue to play at the collegiate level.' In this edition of the unsigned senior spotlight we're going to take a look 6'0 Ian Martino of Lake Norman 'who we feel is a scholarship level prospect.

We have seen Ian Martino of Lake Norman Charter numerous times in camp and travel ball setting. He has always been a player that makes an impact on both ends of the court. He has a high basketball IQ, plays with passion and purpose, and simply does all the things that you expect out of a player on and off the court. At our NC Phenom 150 camp, we stated the following. “He's a strong-bodied guard prospect that showed the ability to handle the ball and attack the rim. Martino displayed a willingness to pass to open teammates whenever possible, but wasn't afraid to take advantage of favorable scoring opportunities. He's pretty quick and moves his feet nicely on defense to contain his assignment. Martino rebounded well for his position and pushed transition play nicely.” His camp coach (Coach Thompson) also went on to say, ” Martino'worked hard and effectively entered the paint throughout camp. He finished strong around the basket and made a worthwhile impression on defense, using his quick hands to force several steals.''

For the season, Martino is having an outstanding year. He is averaging 17.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, and 2.4 SPG. He’s the type of player that can guard multiple positions and often has the task of guarding the opposing team’s best offensive player. Coach Aarron Reeves stated, “Night in and night out, Ian Martino leads us in offense, defense, but most of all leadership. He’s the type of player who is always looking to improve and continues to work on all facets to improve his game. His passion to learn and become better every day which creates a high energy and hard-working young man.”'D2 and D3 schools looking for a talented, yet hard working prospect that continue to improve and get better, not to mention a young player that values playing outstanding defense 'should check out Ian Martino.
