6’5” Unsigned Senior Stephen Edoka

There is no more simple way to say this than, Edoka is a flat out productive beast. He is a strong and athletic wing who plays with a great pace on the ball, however it is on the defensive end that he really makes his mark. Well that isn’t necessarily fair to him, because his mark on the game is in every stat, across the board.
Edoka is a strong 6’5” wing. He has the quick feet to defend opposing teams point guards and he has the length and strength to defends opposing teams power forwards. He carries a 6’8” wing span and he weighs in at a strong 200 pounds.
Through five games, into his senior season, Edoka is averaging 21.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 2.6 steals per game. This incredible production has come in games where he went head to head against high level talent, such as the likes of Wake Forest signee Sharone Wright Jr., Appalachian State signee Adrian Delph and Longwood signee Jaron Williams. Edoka was dominate.
As with a majority of the top players in the state, Edoka is an alum of the prestigious North Carolina Top 80 camp. This camp brings together the top players from North Carolina and has them compete against one another. After his performance in the last camp we wrote, “Next, we look at a player that can play on the perimeter or bang down low whenever necessary, Stephen Edoka. He’s a forward that is really athletic and made his presence known on both ends of the floor among multiple positions. Offensively, he moves well without the ball and does a terrific job posting up smaller players. Edoka’s high motor and hard-nosed approach on the glass was very noticeable; he crashed the glass on both ends of the ball and had great success. On the defensive end, he is a plus and showed his ability to span across multiple positions, an incredibly valuable tool. Coach Pierce on Edoka: “Stephen is a really good athlete that can jump out of the gym. In transition, he tries to rip the rim off the backboard. Stephen rebounded the ball quite well on both sides of the ball.”
Edoka’s game reminds us a lot of TCU sophomore Desmond Bane. In fact, they both carry very similar size, explosion and skill sets. Heading into his senior season at Seton Catholic in Richmond, Indiana, Bane had gone on multiple D2 official visits as he did not carry a single Division 1 offer. As a sophomore at TCU, Bane is averaging 14.1 points, 3.1 boards and 2.1 assists and to start the year off he was second in the NCAA in 3-point percentage and fourth in overall field goal percentage.
As the early signing period came and went, Edoka did not carry a single offer. Since then he has had multiple schools come through to see him with Winthrop even giving out an offer (and attending each game since offering). His game is so intriguing in fact, Virginia has been in multiple times to see him this season, including Head Coach Tony Bennett.
Right now Edoka carries a lone Winthrop offer. That is astonishing to us, even after coming off a junior season that saw him average 16 points, 10.5 boards and 2.4 blocks per game as he led his Concord First Assembly team to the Final Four of the NCISAA 2A state playoffs. A number of more D1 offers should be on their way, they have to be…there is too much to like and too much talent here.
