The Skills Factory under coach Rob Johnson is one that continues to grab the attention of college coaches around the country. Producing talent that is ready for the next level, it seems that the program is producing Division I talent again.
Yet, there are two prospects that have seen their recruitment rise a little but still need more attention for what they bring to the court. 6’9 Chase McKey and 6’3 Christian Wright are no-brainers at the next level and props to college programs that have already started to make them a priority.
Wright has been dominant all season long, averaging 26 points per game, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, while shooting 55 percent from the floor, 37 percent from three, and 82 percent from the line. McKey has put up some impressive numbers as well, especially with his size, averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
We recently spoke with Tyler Lewis, who called their game against Combine Academy earlier this week:
“Christian Wright is a quick and strong scorer. He is really good going both ways and getting downhill. Capable perimeter shooter as well. He makes a good impact on the defensive end and is a leader on the floor, especially with his voice; you just have to love how he competes.”
“Chase McKey is a long, athletic forward. If he continues to work, he could have a similar skillset as Jalen DeLoach (who is committed to VCU). He is a really good defender, altering and blocking shots. He also makes good decisions on the floor and excels in transition.”
These two are unsigned but can for sure help programs on the court, which is why their recruitment should be picking up and more eyes should be on their game.
Recruitment Update:
Chase McKey: McKey just recently picked up an offer from Hampton, now adding to his other offer from Old Dominion. Hampton was a good offer in his eyes, as McKey had this to say about the recent offer.
“Definitely a place that I’m interested in,” he replied. “They play a style that would suit my strengths and they definitely explained how they saw me being effective in their system.”
McKey also said that schools like Tulsa, Murray State, Marshall, Appalachian State, and ETSU have expressed interest as well.
Christian Wright: Wright held multiple offers before getting injured but they have seemingly backed off from then. However, he has earned two new offers from Mount St. Mary’s and Charleston Southern, as he broke down his thoughts on those two.
“Mount St. Mary’s has a very cool staff. I have already been on two zoom calls with them. Their whole coaching staff is all in on me, so that’s cool. For Charleston Southern, I haven’t been on a zoom yet but the head coach calls me either revery night or other night and he seems great too; just his vibe the way he talks to me.”
It will be interesting to see which other schools join in on his recruitment, as Wright mentioned schools like UCF, San Diego State, Iona, Richmond, Illinois, ETSU, Boston College, Minnesota, and a few others have shown interest.
Coach’s Thoughts:
Coach’s Thoughts (Rob Johnson – The Skill Factory): Chase McKey
“He is the son of NBA player Derrick McKey. 6’9 with an exceptional handle for his size and okay making ability. Can play 5 positions on offense. Ben Simmons type skillset. Also, a good level athlete. High IQ and probably the highest ceiling in the program. Elite wing defender as well”
Coach’s Thoughts (The Skill Factory Rob Johnson): Christian Wright
“In my opinion, he is the best 2021 guard in the state Of Georgia. One of the best in the class as far as being college-ready. Makes advances reads, excellent 1-on-1, and defender. Had 18 steals in 4 games over the weekend (at Phenom LIVE). Averaged 20.4ppg for me as a junior before missing his entire senior season with a torn labrum. 1500 point scorer. Had offers from Georgia Tech, TCU, St. John’s before his injury. He’s a complete guard who will be ready to play on Day 1 and is good enough to start for teams now
