Trey Murphy, Decision Looming

When Trey Murphy graduated high school in 2018, the North Carolina native was a thin 6'5. In the past two years at Rice University, Murphy has grown to 6'8 in bare feet. Last season, Murphy averaged 13.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG, shooting 43% from the floor, 37% from the 3-point line and 82.4% from the free throw line.

When Murphy entered his name in the transfer portal, he received over 40 calls from various schools. This past week, Murphy announced on social media that he has narrowed the list to four schools, Houston, Pitt, Villanova and Virginia. Standing a youthful 6'8 with a 7'1 wingspan, Murphy will be making a decision soon. In speaking with his father, Kenneth, the allure of athletics and academics will be key factors in the decision-making process.

Houston: 'Real familiar with the program and coach Sampson. I know Caleb Mills and Nate Hinton; both are friends and from North Carolina.'

Pitt: 'Coach Capel and his brother have been great. They want to put me in best position to succeed and come in and help rebuild the program.'

'Villanova: 'Coach Wright is a phenomenal coach and Nova is a storied program. Great tradition of winning and developing players.'

Virginia: 'Coach Bennett is a great coach. They put an emphasis on defense which is vital for me to play at the next level.'
