It’s team camp/elite camp season and this is one of our favorite times of the year. Almost like an AAU event, you have teams playing across college campuses, 2, 3 and 4 games in a day. It’s a grind, a lot of back gyms, no AC, etc…but the amount of basketball seen is like no other.
Today we visited with our friends at Charleston Southern for their team camp. They brought in 32 teams, across two days. We were able to watch some familiar names and we found some new names. As always, there was good talent and a great way to start off the camp season.
Here were Friday’s 5 to Know
6’4” 2019 Jamal Edmonson
Ashley Ridge HS (SC)
Edmonson is a name we have been tracking since he was in 8th grade. He has always produced because of his high-octane motor and his shear strength. Where previously he was able to be sucked into playing some bully ball, his game has expanded. He has very good footwork to go with touch and a quick release. His coach does a great job lining him up at various spots across the floor and letting him attack. He is a double/double threat and someone who produces in a PJ Tucker type manner.
5’11” 2019 Mikey Dukes
First Baptist (SC)
Simply put, Dukes is the fastest kid in the region, with a basketball in his hands. He is a straight blur and a one-man fast break. Even with how fast he is, he plays in a controlled manner. In this one, Dukes showed the ability to knock down jump shots, especially showing comfort off the bounce. He has excellent vision, throwing pin-point passes to his teammates both in transition and the half court. Dukes has said he will play football first at the next level (as he has numerous Power 5 offers as a RB), but he is someone that were he to give up football, he could really explode to another level in basketball.
6’3” 2020 Aiden McCool
Bishop England (SC)
One thing is for certain, McCool doesn’t lack any confidence in his ability to score the ball. He shot the ball at a high rate and attacked sloppy closeouts getting to the rim and finishing. In the game we watched he finished with 26 points on 6 made 3s. it was quite the performance as he also showed ability as a good team defender. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next two years. He’ll need some size, but the skill set and confidence is already there.
6’2” 2019 Bradley Foulks
Lexington HS (SC)
It was a toss up between Foulks and teammate Mason Carver. Both had good days, but it was Foulks ability to affect the game on both ends that really stood out. He is a very good decision maker and plays at a great pace. He has good vision as he touches the paint and showed the ability to knock down the pull up mid-range jump shot or the 3-pointer as it swings back around. Very interesting player, one that college coaches should be looking closely at. His length and instincts makes people around him better.
6’2” 2019 Marlon Hill
West Ashley HS (SC)
In an absolutely loaded 2019 point guard class in South Carolina, Hill is a new name to add to the list. He is a lengthy and strong point guard who plays with a toughness. Standing 6’2” and 190 pounds, the point guard plays with a great pace and utilizes his 6’7” wing span on defense. This July, coaches should make it a point to get out and see him, with n o less that 10 Division 1 point guards in South Carolina’s 2019 class, he is another on to add on.
