We recently spoke to 2022 Nick Martinelli from Glenbrook South HS and Meanstreets, as his recruitment seems to be taking off. He most recently received an offer from Navy, but also added offers from Bucknell and St. Thomas. Who could be next' We discuss it all.
Phenom: First off, how has this summer been for you, and what has been your mindset coming into the season and wanting to show or prove'
Martinelli: It's been good. I've been able to get a ton of experience in the past month, playing with great players and on a great team. Some stuff that I want to show is my jumping ability and range, further than the three-point line. I think that those are two things that I have worked on a lot and hope to show more in upcoming events.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game on the court and how you like to operate'
Martinelli: Obviously it depends on what my role is on the team but I would say that I'm a scorer for sure. Just putting the ball in the bucket inside and out. Rebounding and can handle the ball. Hope to become a better shot blocker in the future.
Phenom: You've been able to add three offers so far this year. What has been the general message of what they like about your game and how you can help their program'
Martinelli: All the coaches refer to my versatility on both the offensive and defensive sides of the floor. Also, they all refer to me being a scorer and someone that can get them a bucket when needed.
Phenom: Navy is the most recent offer. What did the staff have to say, who has been your main recruiter, and what are your thoughts on the program'
Martinelli: With Navy, Coach Notteboom watched a ton of my games and was on me since the start of the high school season. No matter how many offers I get, Navy will be up there for sure when it comes to committing.
Phenom: What are your thoughts and relationship with Bucknell and St. Thomas'
Martinelli: I love both schools. The coaching staff for both of them are totally awesome. Great programs as well.
Phenom: What other schools are showing interest your way'
Martinelli: Belmont, Yale, SIU, UCSD, Drake, William & Mary, Elon, VMI, Miami (OH), Air Force, Liberty, Furman, Valparaiso, Princeton, FAU, Lehigh, Columbia, and Wofford at the moment.
Phenom: Do you have any visits that you are wanting to take'
Martinelli: Not really sure which ones yet.
Phenom: What are you looking for in a school'
Martinelli: Just a winning program with good kids. I feel like if the kids on the team truly love each other, that makes a winning atmosphere.
