Schools always seem to have their “type of guys” they are looking for. Whether it is related to the program overall or more so the coach’s perspective, each school looks to secure some of the top prospects that will fit in their program.

Syracuse landed their first 2020 prospect on Wednesday in 6’8, 185-pound Woody Newton.

So, what made Syracuse the place for him' How did he inform the staff there and what relationship does he have with the staff' He answered all those questions with Phenom Hoop Report'

Q: Congrats on the commitment. What made Syracuse the place for you in the end'

Newton: “Academically, Syracuse has the #1 communications program in the country. And communications is what I will be majoring in. Then, when it comes to basketball, I just fit Syracuse basketball. Syracuse is known for having long, lanky, skilled guys like myself. The relationships I built with the coaches is everything. That is what solidified it all.”

Q: What relationship did you have with the coaching staff'

Newton: “Every coach at Syracuse I have a great relationship with. Especially with Coach Boeheim and Coach Griffin.”

Q: How did you inform the staff there about your decision'

Newton: “One night, I was on the phone with Coach Griffin and told him I think the next step and best step for me is to attend Syracuse and immediately we called Coach Boeheim and told him and coach accepted my commitment.”
