One of the best parts about our job at Phenom Hoops is not just finding elite talent but also new talent, or talent that seems to be sliding up the rug a little. Recently watching the showdown between West Carteret and Northwood, one player continues to attract my attention with what he provides on the court.
2023 6’8 Max Frazier from Northwood high school is a player that brings intrigue with his game and has consistently stood out each time we have watched Northwood in action. When you ask him about his game, Frazier would say that his game mostly consists around the rim and being a defensive presence, something he has shown consistently all year long. But I would have to say it consists of a little bit more. When watching him operate on the court, Frazier does a nice job using his length to his advantage; he can guard inside and out, has great timing in blocking shots and being a rim-protector, moves very well around the court and in transition, attacks the boards, and shows nice touch and a motor in the paint and on the boards.
On the season, he posted averages of 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game and there is certainly room to still grow and develop with his overall feel. Frazier would say he has continued to work hard in developing more of his game and being more aggressive on the court.
Frazier is a name you may want to jot down for sure, as he will be playing this summer with the Durham Hurricanes once again.
What has Phenom Hoops Said:
“2023 Max Frazier (NW) is one that more programs may need to look at. He is a 6’8 forward that can guard multiple positions and has excellent timing in blocking shots, getting on the boards, and nice touch around the basket. Still developing but he is one that should get more looks with what he provides on both sides of the court.”
“Frazier had a huge game for the Chargers, finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks, 3 steals. With the departure of Jarin Stevenson, this is the perfect opportunity for Frazier to step up and receive a boost in his recruitment. And last night, he made the most of this opportunity. He was extremely active on both ends of the floor. At 6’8, he has good length and athleticism. Defensively, he moves his feet well and utilizes his length to protect the rim. Offensively, in the post, he showcased a soft touch and the ability to score over his left shoulder. He also had a nice reverse layup to avoid the shot blocker. He was active on the glass. The times when he didn’t come up with the rebound, he kept the ball alive for a teammate to grab. This helped Northwood create second-chance scoring opportunities. More impressively was his passing ability. He made several passes that not many post players are able to make. He connects on a high-low pass from the elbow. Then later in the first half, he made a beautiful baseline drift pass out of a post move. Expect Frazier to have a big year for Northwood and be a pivotal part of their success.”
“2023 Max Frazier, a 6’8 long forward, continues to show how he can be a rim-protector on the court.”
“2023 Max Frazier caught my eye. He is a long 6’8, mobile forward that can score the ball around the basket, get on the boards, step out if needed, and be a rim-protector. A new name to keep an eye on for sure.”
