In this age of social media, and Youtube and Digital Clips Carter Whitt is one who thrives in this space. He has a camera on him at every game, and his Youtube and game clips, routinely get clicks and impressions. His clip on the Slam High School Twitter Feed (@Slam_HS) titled “Carter Whitt is one of the most underrated hoopers in the country” gained 60,400 views alone.
There is a mystique about Whitt, there is no doubt about that. It is a mystique that attracts the casual observer’s eye. Whitt is uber-talented, this may be where it starts. He is a Top 50 ranked player in the country who has over 20 college offers, from the likes of Ohio State, Florida, Xavier, Maryland, Texas A&M, and others. So the substance is there, but in this age of social media and viral highlights, Whitt is an anomaly.
Whitt is fundamentally sound. You won’t find him windmill dunking in games, or going iso-1 on 1 every time down the floor looking to break his man down. What you will do is find him utilizing footwork and pace to get to his spots, keep his defender off balance and then hit him with a counter. Now he does have some flash to his game, but it’s subtle, and you have to be looking for it, with an angled pass or a hesi into a rhythm 3 ball.
Having posted multiple videos of Whitt on our Youtube page as well, another thing you notice when looking at trends is that his videos get more clicks with the female population than other videos. All the way back to Pete Maravich have people they been spreading the legend about the floppy-haired skinny kid who is a killer. Time tells this archetype of player always draws a crowd and is a fan favorite.
Well this Saturday, Whitt will be put to the test. He is currently rated as the #2 player in North Carolina’s 2021 class, but more importantly the #1 point guard. He has a head to head matchup with the #2 point guard in the class, Bobby Pettiford.
Without question, it will be one to watch. A very telling matchup within the North Carolina landscape!!
