We just want to put this out first and foremost, the Tennessee Tigers program in general is a program that college coaches of multiple levels really need to start looking and keeping an eye on.  There is talent to be found.

But in this piece, two players that really captured the eyes of our scouts this past weekend in Spartanburg were 2021 6’7 Alex Rush and 2021 6’7 Sam Specht.  Two players with good size but bring different types of games that certainly should find their way to the next level.

First off, you look at Specht. He is a prospect that brings good size and build, but is one that can honestly offer an answer for teams at multiple positions on the court. He excels on the court with his ability to shoot from the perimeter, spotting up and knocking down shots from three, but also putting it on the floor and scoring. Add that with his ability to defend and IQ, Specht brings a lot of intrigue that should have the coach’s attention.

“I would say I try to make the right play to help the team win and do what the team needs me to do, whether that is scoring and hitting three’s or playing great defense or getting rebounds,” Specht told Phenom Hoops.

It is why that he already holds a few offers from Alabama-Huntsville and Freed-Hardeman, while also receiving more interest from schools like The Citadel, North Georgia, Union University, Lander, Lee University, and Missouri Western.

Standing at the same size, Rush brings more of an inside presence to the table but has nice tough and instincts down in the paint.  He has more of a natural feel down in the post but is a stretch forward that can step out along the perimeter.

“I would best describe my game as the new age big man type,” Rush told Phenom Hoops. “I have the ability to post up but I also have the ability to step out and spread the floor. I attack the court every game by trying to go in with a winning mindset and do whatever my team needs me to do to win.”

Rush holds three offers as well from Freed-Hardman, Bryan College, and Florida College, while also getting interest from Lee University, Alabama-Huntsville, Lincoln Memorial, and Carson-Newman.

Rush and Specht are two new names that could continue to see a boost in their recruitment but are two that clearly can provide unique games for college programs.
