The Phenom Summer Havoc has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean the coverage stops there as we want to talk a little bit more about what we saw on the court throughout the last four days. Here are a few topics that I was able to view at the event.
If you haven’t noticed as of late, Phenom Hoops has been shedding more light on the talent from Canada and that continued again this weekend down at the Summer Havoc. We had a great chance to check out the Brantford Hawks and though a new team for us, they had players that impressed us, and their play throughout the week was strong as well.
First talking about the team, Brantford came in strong and played team basketball all throughout the event. They shared the ball, they were well-coached, and they made strong plays on both sides of the ball. Brantford’s players understood where they needed to be, shared the ball throughout, and did a great job in running their sets as well as playing hard defensively; you don’t always get a chance to see that during events, but we certainly took note.
As far as players, there were a few that really intrigued me. 2024 Amare Hamilton was one of the go-to scoring guards all throughout the event, having multiple impressive showings throughout. He was able to get out in transition, finished well around defenders, and did a great job in not only showing he can be a threat from outside but also putting it on the deck and making plays. 2025 Dylan Craven was another guard that impressed, as he was a true point guard leader on the floor that got everyone involved. Time after time he displayed tremendous awareness and vision, made high-IQ decisions, and set up his teammates extremely well for easy baskets.
2024 Jarvis Taylor brought some appeal with his size, as he is a long, fluid big man that played hard, was able to be a presence defensively, and ran the floor in transition well. And all throughout the roster, Brantford Hawks’ players understood what was needed from them and put the team first. Overall, was really impressed with what this team was able to show, as we look to shed more light on the talent up north.
