The talent on display at the US Club Championships was off the charts, as some of the top players in the Class of 2026 and 2027 were on display, but that also included a few prospects in the Class of 2028. One player that we stumbled upon at the event was 2028 6’5 Marque Johnson with New Heights Lightning. Watching him in action, one couldn’t help but notice his impact and presence, and then we learned that he was part of the Class of 2028 playing up.
Johnson should be on your watch list for the Class of 2028; his blend of physicality, his 6’5 frame, his comfort level from a variety of areas on the court, his athleticism, and his impact to make plays in a variety of other areas are impressive. He plays with an experienced feel and can consistently make his presence felt, whether it is finishing at the rim, attacking and embracing contact, finding open teammates, or helping on the glass. Johnson can bring a lot of versatility, and his strength/frame helps him early on in a variety of ways.
Though we just learned about Johnson at the event, he is a player that I would certainly jot down and watch more as he develops. He has a chance to be a premier player in the Class of 2028 as he showed on the big stage in Rock Hill (SC).
What Was Said:
“Another new name that grabbed our attention was Johnson, as he has an extremely mature frame and feel for a player at his age. The 6’5 prospect has a strong frame and good athleticism to his game, as he is comfortable being an option in a variety of areas. Johnson moves well without the ball, is a strong scoring option that embraces contact and being physical, can finish tough around or at the rim, and can knock down shots from the perimeter as well. I liked the early flashes of his game and what he provides, as he will be another name for college coaches in the Class of 2028.”
