6’3 2019 Caleb Mills has taken some notable strides over the last year and ever since travel ball season he’s possessed a fresh court swagger.
Over the summer with Team Vision (NC), Mills played up an age group and served as the primary floor general for the 17U squad. Mills performed well he was consistent on both ends, and even had a few breakout scoring performances against some tier one competition during our July Exposure Period. We witnessed Mills game grow with his body and both paid dividends on the recruitment trail.
Currently Mills holds eight offers local mid majors like, (App State, High Point U, and WCU), are vying to keep the Asheville native in state. Others MM’s abroad like, College of Charleston, George Mason, and Liberty, would also welcome Mills to run their systems for the next several years.
The interest is growing everyday and if Mills continues to build on his hot start to 2018 and continues to show this high level of play consistently, it won’t be long before some of the high majors start calling. At 6’3 Mills can shoot over smaller guards or finish over them at the basket; he’s not the fastest guard but Mills has a nice first step off the dribble and his strides are long, ultimately Mills is a pass- first guard that can get his own shot whenever necessary.
Mills enjoys moving the rock and getting others involved he can run the break or operate in half court sets. What sticks out most is Mills decision making ability he rarely turns the ball over, and in the pick N roll Mills is a straight up maestro he will take whatever the defense gives.
In our MLK showcase Mills gave Fayetteville powerhouse Trinity Christian Academy (NC), fits all night in the pick N roll, Mills can slice up defenses with his court vision and pinpoint passing, when defenders went under Mills flashed a polished pull up game. In that contest Mills got wherever he wanted on the floor, he finished with over twenty in a heartbreaking OT loss where his Asheville Christian (NC), side led for over three full quarters.
Mills has gotten stronger on the drive we’ve seen him embrace contact at the cup and finish for and one’s or earn fouls regularly, although he could still use more added muscle to a slender frame over the next two years.
If Mills lands in an environment that allows him to flourish this kid could be a star at the next level with his skillset and basketball I.Q.
