Out in Morganton, North Carolina, one may have noticed that the Patriots of Freedom high school has been putting together a strong season.  A team with an experienced group in areas, the storyline may be about the freshman that is creating some buzz as 2025 6'1 Amore Connelly is quickly rising throughout the state as a player you will want to see sooner rather than later.

If you haven't seen the early highlights with Connelly, then you may want to check him out and see if you can watch him in action before the season ends.  Phenom Hoops was able to check out Connelly when they took on Alexander Central, where he put on an absolute show.

He finished with 30 points and seven assists, we got a glimpse into more of his game and how he operates on the court.  The 6'1 freshman plays with a natural feel to the game, one you don't always see with a player at his age.  In the showdown, Connelly was able to either initiate the offense or play off the ball, as he can cover a ton of area with his dribble, is strong out in transition, but can also play in the halfcourt in getting by defenders.  He creates well off the dribble, penetrating and getting in the lane, using his athleticism well, and showing good body control in finishing or getting fouled.  But he also does a terrific job in reading what the defender is giving him, creating space with his crossover, and knocking down jumpers from an array of areas.

We spoke about his athleticism and it is something that will grab your attention, as he certainly can use his bounce to get on the boards, run down and block shots, or finish strong at the rim.  He brings the excitement to the court with his game and for just a freshman, he should be on every watch list in North Carolina with what we saw.

At times, it doesn't take long to figure out a player and that they have the talent to be a big-time prospect.  Connelly is one of those, so it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop his overall feel for the game.  But he is one to take notice of early on as you will be hearing his name a lot more.

In the eyes of the player:

Describing his game, how he likes to operate, and what you provide on the court:

“I love the game, it has always helped me get away from negativity and helped me focus on what is next and I just love it. I love driving and going to dunk on an opponent’s big man and getting to my spot on the court and getting buckets. I like passing the ball too, just comes with trust because I have to know you are ready and ready to hit the shot.”

Playing early in high school helping his game:

“It has helped a lot, very different from middle school. It showed me that I’m different and really good at basketball but at the same time, I need to improve on my left hand and my jump shot.”
