It seemed every time a box score came into us at the Queen City Showcase, the names Micah Jones and Xavier DeBerry came up when they played for the Strong Center Elite 15u.
The duo was absolutely terrific in Rock Hill all weekend long.
2023 6’0 Micah Jones posted scoring totals of 29, 18, and 13 in his three games, while 2023 6’1 Xavier DeBerry posted 17, 18, and 29 as well.
To start off, Micah Jones is one we recently spotlighted with Phenom Hoops, as Jones looks to be given the “keys to the car” at Cardinal Gibbons in the coming years. Coming off a special freshman campaign in which he showed quickness and the ability score on all three levels, he seems to be starting his story early this summer.
In speaking with Coach Adam Hall from Strong Center Elite, he had to say this about Micah’s game.
“Unstoppable in transition. Our best offense runs through him at high speeds, but also possesses ability to execute in the half court. His high IQ makes him tough to guard, as he can pass or score. Pure play-making PG who can take over a game at any time.”
For DeBerry, is a 6’1 prospect that really caught the eyes of our scout, Jason Porter. He is a big body guard that plays with a physical nature to his game, getting to the basket and finishing but also knocking down his jumper. DeBerry also plays with a high motor on the court.
Coach Hall mentioned this about his game when we spoke with to him.
“Pure Scorer. Tremendous versatility on both ends. I can plug and play anywhere to get a bucket or a stop in defense. His abilities will continue to grow in value as position-less basketball becomes more prevalent.”
These two guards have made an early impression and will be ones to keep an eye on this summer and down the road.
