Stock on the Rise: 6'6 2022 Brenton Elliott (Stuart Cramer HS)

To say the state of North Carolina is filled with ridiculous talent would be a gross understatement. That being said, there are always hidden gems tucked away in various parts of the state and that is the case in point with 6'6 rising junior Brenton Elliott of Stuart Cramer High School in Belmont, North Carolina. Our first glimpse of Elliott was last May at the Phenom JMAC Showcase when we wrote the following. 'Elliott plays with a ton of energy. He has a quick first step to blow by defenders and can finish at the rim, not to mention a solid mid-range game. Elliott's rebounding ability and the way he attacks the glass can be impressive to watch on both ends of the court. Elliott has a high upside once the game slows down for him.'

This past season, Elliott averaged 11.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.5 SPG and 2.2 BPG. Coach Brad Sloan stated, 'Recruitment is just starting to catch momentum with interest from several schools, such as Gardner Webb, North Carolina A&T, and Winthrop. He was one of the best players in the Big South Conference as a sophomore. He was also voted to the All Big South Conference, selected All Tournament at the Peoples Bank Holiday Clash. Elliott is long, athletic, quick and versatile player. More importantly, he is able to defend at a high level and can defend multiple positions. On offense, he uses his quickness and athleticism to get to the basket. While Elliott shows the ability to be an excellent 3-point shooter, he can be more consistent. In addition, Elliott does need to add some additional strength.'

Coach Rick's Breakdown

Elliott is a long, athletic, mobile and fluid hybrid forward. He's best in transition where he can utilize his length, speed and overall quickness. Elliott can score from all three levels. He has touch and range, although he could use a higher release point. That being said, he does put the ball in the pocket and has solid shooting mechanics, form and follow through. Elliott has a nice mid-range pull up game, but is very crafty around the rim. He has the ability to use the rim as protection by using reverse layups with his off hand and has good body control. In addition, he does have a quick first step and can utilize the 'crow hop' effectively in the paint.

Defensively, Elliott has the ability to guard multiple positions. He has impeccable timing on securing rebounds as well as blocking and altering shots. Elliott is not afraid to get on the floor for loose balls. We were equally impressive with his transition defense where he hustled back and often made a defensive block. In addition, Elliott also does a good job of anticipating passes and stepping into the passing lanes for deflections or steals.'
