2018 Trey Murphy

One of our favorite sayings at the Phenom Hoop Report is “It’s not where you start, but where you finish is most important.” This statement is custom made for 6’4 ’18 Trey Murphy of Cary Academy and the Durham Hurricanes. We have watched Trey countless times and one thing is for certain. Shooters translate and Trey Murphy is definitely one to watch. He has outstanding range and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot, however he is lethal in a catch and shoot situation.

Trey has caught our attention numerous times at the NC Phenom 150 camp and various AAU team events. Trey is having a monster season for Cary Academy. He is averaging 22.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 2.8 APG. However it is shooting percentage that is very appealing. Trey is shooting 34-63 from the floor for 54%, 41-87 from the 3-point line for 47%, and an amazing 76-82 free throws for 93%.

Trey’s breakout game came at the after Christmas where he exploded for 44 points. He went 9-12 from the floor, 4-4 from the 3-point line and a perfect 20-20 from the free throw line. Not to mention, Trey collected six rebounds and dished out three assists. (He even refilled the water bottles at halftime)

More importantly, Trey sports an impressive 3.5 GPA at Cary Academy, which is regarded as one of the toughest private schools in the state. He is a Lenovo Scholar and is currently on the Cary Academy Judicial Board. Trey is a well-rounded student athlete that has his priorities in order. He’s a very polite and humble young man and does things the right way on and off the court.

It’s time for D1 schools to take notice. Many programs slept on another player (Carter Collins) from the Durham Hurricanes program and eventually exploded his senior season and signed with Davidson College. For Trey Murphy, he is getting into the groove and is definitely one to put in your SIM CARD.
