Sitting baseline throughout the weekend in Bermuda Run at the Rise Indoor Facility, one team that really attracted my eyes was THG 16u. When you look at the roster, you see a few familiar names that you certainly want to check out again including one of the more dynamic scoring guards in the state of North Carolina in 2023 Keenan Wilkins.
Wilkins is the one that highlights the team quickly, as he continues to be a scoring machine. The 6’0 guard understands what he needs to do, taking quality shots and playing with confidence and you haven’t seen too many defenders slowing him down. Scoring outside with his jumper or attacking off the dribble and creating for himself, he does a little bit of everything and showed it again, lighting up the scoreboard.
Another name that quickly got on our radar was a new prospect in 2024 6’7 Jamaal Phatty. After watching his first two games, we had this to say about the young man:
“This is a new name in North Carolina that many might not know but he should start garnering some attention with his game. Still a work in progress but he is a 6’7, fluid and mobile prospect that is effective on both ends of the floor. Very active on the floor and just starting his story but one to really watch.”
A few other guys were standouts at Phenom Stay Positive. 2023 Julius Reese is a prospect that made some strong plays for his team, making some terrific passes, finding his teammates, and playing with an unselfish feel on the court. He also has a strong frame that he uses well in creating scoring opportunities for himself. 2023 5’9 Khaleb Whitfield really helped in providing another scorer on the court for his team and understands the game well; you can see that he has a basketball background and continues to learn the game.
Also, players like 2023 Oshea Fernandez and others had some impressive moments on the court this weekend.
Coach Whitfield has a quality group with talent that should receive more eyes on them but also has talent that could potentially play at the next level. One thing is for sure though, THG has a few young players that you will want to watch.
